Sun-Jae, who was a discarded baby, has been grown up by Moon-Su, who is an ex-convict.  After Moon-Su picked up Sun-Jae, he reformed himself and has lived as a trash picker monk.  Moon-Su dies by an accident.  After his death, Sun-Jae leaves to look for his mother as Moon-Su tells to before he dies.

During his endless travel, he meets many people who teach and make Sun-Jae experience sadness, liberty, passion etc.  After a good while, sun-Jae meets again I-Ryon, who he met at his father’s cremation and now makes a confession of her love of sun-Jae from the first encounter.  I-Ryon begs sun-Jae to settle down.  He turns down her request and leaves.  He meets with a friend of his father’s, Duk-Ku, who has become a swindler and who is arrested by the police.  Sun-Jae tries to commit suicide plunging into the sea as he feels that he is nothing and no use to others.  An old lighthouse keeper rescues him from drowning.

Sun-Jae continues to travel picking up trash with a discarded boy after he believes desire is nothing to think of.
